India’s record at the MCG has been great recently
Mind you, Team India has relished playing in front of the 1,00,000-seated Melbourne Stadium. In fact, it’s one of India’s most successful grounds overseas, having hosted India for 4 wins and two draws. The first of the four victories came in December of 1977, when India beat Australia by a massive margin of 22 runs.
In their last three battles here, India have not lost a single Test. During the third Test of the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the series levelled at 1-1. India bounced back at the MCG to beat Australia by 137 runs, with Jasprit Bumrah picking a career-best 6/33. The win helped India retain the trophy. Moreover, the last time India played a Test here, the Men in Blue scripted one of the best comebacks in Test history. On the back of skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s century, India beat the mighty Australian unit in 2020.
