Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday announced the acquisition of New Zealand seamer Matt Henry in place of English left-arm pacer David Willey. Willey, who is missing the IPL due to personal reasons, was signed by LSG for Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Matt Henry, who had a base price of Rs 75 lakh but went unsold at the auction, will join the LSG team in the next days.
Mystery surrounding Willey
Initially, it was reported that Willey would miss the start of the IPL 2024 season due to personal reasons. LSG’s new head coach Justin Langer later reiterated that Willey would not be available for the start of the season. Notably, Willey had spent the previous two months travelling, playing for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 and the Multan Sultans in the PSL.

New Zealand seamer Matt Henry is quite experienced in the T20s himself. The Kiwi pacer has played 131 T20s till date and has taken 151 wickets at an average of over 24. It remains to be seen what kind of impact he brings to the table for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024.
