Former India cricketer Yograj Singh, father of the legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has once again made a bold statement about Arjun Tendulkar. In an interview with former Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab player Taruwar Kohli, Yograj stated that Arjun should focus more on his batting, as he is a batting all-rounder.
Speaking on a podcast, Yograj claimed that Arjun’s natural talent is being overlooked due to his emphasis on bowling, asserting that his real strength lies in batting. To support his statement, he shared an incident where both Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh had urged him to mentor Arjun when the Goa team visited. Arjun stayed with Yograj for 10-12 days, during which the former cricketer closely observed his game. Yograj was highly impressed with Arjun’s batting skills and questioned why he was being primarily utilised as a bowler. He strongly felt that Arjun’s true potential lay in batting and believed that if nurtured as a batting all-rounder, he could thrive in the sport.

“If Arjun Tendulkar comes to me now, I will make him the world’s greatest batter in six months. No one knows the potential he has with the bat. He was with me for 12 days, he scored a century in Ranji Trophy debut. Did anybody realise?” Yograj Singh said on Taruwar Kohli’s YouTube channel.
“Goa’s team was here. Sachin and Yuvraj told me to take Arjun Tendulkar under my wings. He stayed here with me for 10-12 days. I thought, ‘he is such a great batter, kaha isko bowling mein laga rakkha hai?’ Why are you wasting him in bowling?’ As a batting all-rounder, he will be fine.”

Although initially he went unsold in the IPL mega auction, he was later picked up in the accelerated stage by five-time winners Mumbai Indians at the base price of INR 30 lakh.
