Blind Cricket: Naresh Tumda- India’s 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup winning team member toiling hard as labourer: While Indians are celebrating India’s historic win at Tokyo Olympics, an athlete from India’s 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup-winning team- Naresh Tumda is faring hard to even earn bread-butter for his family. The 29-year old Indian cricketer from the Blind cricket team is having a tough time while working as a daily wage labourer in his hometown Navsari in Gujarat.

As per newindianexpress.com reports, Naresh had applied for many government jobs but nothing prospered. As a result, he had to resort to daily wages to fulfill his household commitments. “I earn Rs 250 a day, which is hardly enough to support my poor parents. I urge the government to grant me a job,” said Naresh.

After regular pleading from the government, the Indian player hard to resort to vegetable selling to foot his household expenses. “I can barely make ends meet with my paltry wages. My parents are old; my father cannot work. I am the sole breadwinner for the family. I have been expecting the government to show consideration for the past two years,” he said.

Naresh was a part of the Indian team that won the Blind Cricket World Cup in 2018 by beating Pakistan in Sharjah. India’s T20 Blind team clinched their second World Cup (2018) in succession after lifting the same earlier in 2017. In the 2018 edition, India had remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and chased 309 runs to beat Pakistan. In the feat, Sunil Ramesh (93) and Ajay Reddy (62) were the top scorers for India.

Tumda had started playing cricket from the tender age of five. In 2014, he was selected in the Gujarat team, following which he was called for the national lineup.
