Big Indian Cricket Debate: BCCI official says, ‘Former Cricketers & experts making situation confusing, Rohit Sharma was appointed vice-captain for a reason’
  • Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar wants young Rishabh Pant as captain.
  • Dilip Vengsarkar’s choice is Rohit Sharma or Ravichandran Ashwin.
  • Former Secretary of the board Sanjay Jagdale feels KL Rahul should be the next captain.
  • Yuvraj Singh has voted in favor of Rishabh Pant
  • For Harbhajan Singh Rohit is the best candidate
  • If these names are not enough, their are few who are throwing name of Jasprit Bumrah as perfect choice to be the India’s next captain.

“We can’t understand this. Everyone is throwing different names for captaincy. They don’t understand one basic thing. Rohit Sharma was appointed vice-captain for the test team for a reason. If the selectors don’t see a leader in him, why they would have appointed him in place of Ajinkya Rahane”, said miffed BCCI official.

India’s NEW Test Captain? Rohit was appointed as the vice-captain of India’s Test side before the tour of South Africa, before a hamstring injury ruled him out.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar and India’s 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh are batting for star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who slammed a hundred in the final Test, to take over as the new Test captain.

“If you ask me, I am still saying, I would look at Rishabh Pant as next India captain.

“Yes, I am saying that. Tiger Pataudi was captain at the age of 21 under adverse circumstances when Nari Contractor was injured. Look what he did after that. He took to captaincy like duck to water. I think what we have seen with Rishabh Pant as the captain of Delhi Capitals in the IPL, I do believe he has the capability of taking Indian cricket forward and making it a very exciting team to watch,” he was quoted in a recent interview by India Today.

Why Gavaskar doesn’t want Rohit Sharma as next test captain?

“The problem with Rohit is that he has fitness issues. So you need a player who remains fit and is available for all matches. If you remember, Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews had the same issue with hamstring. And with that, when you try to run fast or take a quick single, the injury resurfaces,” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.

On the other hand, former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar recommends that, for now, anyone amongst Rohit Sharma or Ravichandran Ashwin should be the new skipper of India’s Test team, as Pant and opener KL Rahul aren’t yet ready for the job.

“I would appoint Rohit or Ashwin as a stop-gap captain and groom the future captain. Right now, you need somebody with captaincy experience and an assured place in the Test side. Rohit and Ashwin have established themselves in Test cricket,” Vengsarkar told TOI.

When will be the India’s New Test Captain announced? The BCCI will make official announcement right after to the tour of South Africa
