The Indian Cricket Team welcomes back Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna to the set-up after their long injury absence. The two pacemen, key in India’s World Cup 2023 plans, make a comeback for the India vs Ireland (IND vs IRE) series. Bumrah will in fact lead the side, with many key players rested ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co, part of the Asian Games 2023, make the most of the squad.

Captain Bumrah returns
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for almost a year due to a recurring back injury. The premier pacer underwent surgery in New Zealand and has been bowling full tilt in the nets in the build of the India vs Ireland series. With several senior stars resting, the Mumbai Indians star will also lead the side. Bumrah captained the Indian cricket team in the 5th test vs England last year, but Ireland T20Is will be his first foray into limited-overs leadership.
Bumrah missed the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup last year, hurting India’s chances in both tournaments. His timely return is a big boost for Rohit and Dravid considering their plans for the World Cup 2023. Bumrah will aim to get some overs under his belt in Ireland, before the Asia Cup 2023, where he will be expected to be at his best.
Bumrah’s partner in crime Prasidh Krishna is also back in action. Krishna also missed the IPL 2023 due to a back injury and underwent surgery. Like Bumrah, he had been bowling full tilt in the nets and played practice games at the NCA. Krishna’s skills to execute plans in the middle and death overs make him an asset for the Indian team.
No Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul
Even while there is excitement around the return of Bumrah & Prasidh, Shreyas and KL Rahul remain out of action. Both batsmen are also at the NCA and have resumed batting in the nets. However, their return was delayed to the Asia Cup 2023. Both remain to India’s plans for the World Cup 2023 but there will be unease on their availability. With the World Cup squad selection on September 5, both Shreyas and KL will only have two games in the Asia Cup to prove their match fitness. India play Pakistan on Sept 2 and Nepal on Sept 4 at Kandy.
