Senior pacer Tim Southee is set to join the New Zealand squad for the upcoming World Cup starting from October 5 onwards. The Kiwis will be action in the opening encounter as they face the defending champions England. To note, the right-arm pacer suffered a thumb injury during the recently completed ODI series against the Three Lions. It remains to be seen whether Southee manages to get fit before the opening clash of WC.
Kyle Jamieson will also join the Kiwi squad for WC
As stated above, Southee broke a bone in his right thumb while fielding in the fourth ODI against England at Lord’s recently. The senior pacer returned home to consult specialists, who recommended surgery. Meanwhile, express pacer Kyle Jamieson has also joined the Kiwi squad for the World Cup and might also feature in the opening match of the tournament.
The New Zealand cricket team will be arriving in India in two batches. While the first batch lands on Tuesday, the second one will be in the reaching the host nation on Wednesday (September 27) evening. As mentioned above, the Kiwis will play the curtain raiser for the tournament against the defending champs England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
There are three venues where New Zealand will play two games each: Chennai, Dharamshala, and Bengaluru, and three other venues where they will play one game each: Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Pune.
