Big blow to Nepal! Sandeep Lamichhane to miss T20 World Cup after another US visa rejection

Last week, Lamichhane's visa was rejected as the US Embassy deemed the star leg-spinner a flight risk.

Sandeep Lamichanne will not travel to the USA and the West Indies for the T20 World Cup 2024. The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) was eager to send the leg-spinner as a part of their squad, but the US Embassy denied him a visa. Following this, protests erupted in Nepal, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports even arranged an interview with the US Embassy in Kathmandu for Lamichanne.

However, none of those efforts have borne any fruit, as the former Nepal skipper was denied a US visa for the second straight time. The reason behind the rejection is the fear that Lamichhane will travel to the USA and may not wish to come back. He had faced a first rejection on May 22, and despite the Nepal government approaching the US Embassy, it didn’t work for him or the Nepal Cricket Team.

CAN wanted Lamichhane on the flight across the Atlantic and had even named a 14-man to the ICC. “We have submitted only the names of 14 players by requesting the ICC. The ICC has agreed to wait for a few days,” said Dipendra Chaudhary, the coordinator of the player selection committee.
