Big blow to India due to “unseasonal rains” in Perth, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja could be ineffective

IND vs AUS: The Perth pitch is expected to offer pace and bounce, but might not be suited for spin bowling.

It seems like all odds are against Team India, going into the first IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth, that starts on November 22. Now, for the past two days, the venue has been experiencing “unseasonal rains”, while generally it is pretty dry during this time of the year. That means, there won’t be cracks on the surface, which might have aided the Indian spinners — Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja, as the match progressed.

Rain in Perth to Disrupt India’s Plans

The WA Cricket head curator Isaac McDonald opened up about the condition of the pitch. “Yesterday, we pretty much lost the whole day of prep with it [pitch] being under cover,” McDonald told reporters. “We saw the forecast early on, and we started prep a little bit earlier than we normally would.”

“It’s been quite conditions-based,” he said. “At the moment, we’re leaning towards rolling it a bit more on top to get that firmness, and that happy medium between bat and ball. [It] would be nice if the sun pops out, but we’re really comfortable as a curating team.”

He also made it clear, that though the weather would remain clear during the course of the match, but the conditions won’t let the pitch detoriate much. “I don’t think this weather is going to make this pitch fall apart,” he said. “There’ll be some deterioration. Grass will stand up during the game and offer that variable bounce. But in terms of big-snake WACA cracks, unfortunately, I don’t think the weather’s going to get us there.”

IND vs AUS, 1st Test

That could be a big problem for India, who would be relying on their spinners for sure. For the record, Ashwin has played 10 matches in Australia picking up 39 wickets. Jadeja has played four matches where he has bagged 14 wickets, and Sundar in his only match has 4 wickets.
