In a blow for the Sri Lanka team, their express pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. To note, the right-arm pacer suffered a shoulder injury during the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. However, the speedster is expected to recover from his injuries before upcoming 2023 World Cup and will be considered for the mega event.

“He sustained a shoulder injury and advised rest. This shoulder injury (ligament tear) he suffered in one of the matches in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL),” the source in the SLC revealed to Bdcrictime.Com
“Before the LPL, he had recovered from his ankle injury. We want him to be fit for the World Cup and therefore has been dropped from the Asia Cup squad. If he is able to move his hands freely, will be considered for the World Cup,” an insider added.
The decision on another star player for SL, Wanindu Hasaranga will be made soon. To note, the 26-year-old has a hamstring injury and his name has been to the sports ministry for clearance. Hasaranga’s name will be only cleared once he passes the fitness test.
Chief selectors in consultation with the coaching management and skipper Dasun Shanaka have finalized the squad of 15 players including Chameera and Hasaranga. SLC has also announced 5 stand-in players as well. To note, Sri Lanka are the defending champs of the Asia Cup after they defeated Pakistan in the last concluded edition. Shanaka and Co. will look to repeat their antics and try to defend their title.
Sri Lanka will begin their 2023 Asia Cup campaign on August 31 against Bangladesh. Their other group-stage match is on September 5 against Afghanistan. It must be mentioned that this is the first time since 2018 that the showpiece event will be played in an ODI format.
