Big blow for England! Joe Root sustains finger injury during IND vs ENG 2nd Test

Joe Root went off the field after injuring his little finger while attempting a catch at slip during Day 3 of Vizag Test.

England suffered a major setback as veteran all-rounder Joe Root went off the field after injuring his little finger during the Day 3 of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test in Visakhapatnam.

“Joe Root sustained an external blow to his right little finger, attempting a slip catch in the first session of day three. The England medical team will keep him off the field for the time being to treat and ice. At this stage, there is no indication of when he will return to the field,” ECB said in a statement.

Root injured his finger in the 13th over of India’s innings when the ball struck the edge of his right hand’s little finger while he was attempting a slip catch.

The former England captain went off the field and didn’t return post lunch as well. Root’s injury is a big blow for England who are set to chase a big target in the fourth innings.

India are pushed their lead to over 330 after losing four wickets in the first session. Gill, who was struggling with form, is nearing his century and is stitching a good partnership with Axar Patel.
