“Best wishes for Champions Trophy” – PCB receives ECB’s backing amid BCCI blackballing

India has refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, which means that Pakistan's dream of hosting their first ICC event since 1996 could remain unfulfilled.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been forced to its knees by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The hope to host the Champions Trophy 2025 looks like a far-fetched dream right now. Following BCCI’s decision not to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the 8-team tournament, PCB has become helpless. They knocked on the International Cricket Council (ICC), but no result has come.

PCB gets ECB’s approval

In actuality, the ICC further assisted India. PCB’s ‘trophy tour‘ of the ICC Champions Trophy was modified yesterday after BCCI raised objections over it. The trophy was going to dispute regions that India claims to be theirs, i.e., Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Getting nothing from the BCCI or the ICC, the PCB has decided to seek help elsewhere.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and COO Salman Naseer met with Richard Thompson, the Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), in London to talk about the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The meeting was fruitful, according to the PCB, and they even quoted Thompson extending his support, “England’s recent tour of Pakistan was very impressive. Our best wishes are with Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.”

Naqvi assured his counterpart from England that all things remain on track. Their venues will be ready, security will be airtight, and visiting teams will receive grant treatment. “Pakistan is ready to host the Champions Trophy. The stadiums are being upgraded. Foolproof arrangements are being made at every level for the Champions Trophy. Visiting teams will be given state guest protocol,” Naqvi told Thompson.
