Bengaluru to host WPL 2024? Is Smriti Mandhana’s wish likely to be fulfilled?

Will Smriti Mandhana’s wish of Multi City venue for WPL be granted? Bengaluru likely to hos WPL 2024

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is likely to be played across multi-cities. Unlike the previous edition when the WPL was held in Mumbai, now in WPL 2024, the matches are likely to be held across different cities. Reports claim that Bengaluru is likely to be the new city apart from Mumbai likely to host the WPL matches. This means Smriti Mandhana’s wish can finally come true.

A BCCI official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to PTI, revealed, “The final decision (about venues) might come on December 9 (the day of the WPL auction) but it is highly likely that this year it (WPL) will follow the multi-city format with Mumbai and Bengaluru being the front-runners at this moment.”

RCB’s popularity especially with their Women’s team has prompted the Karnataka State Officials to join with Mumbai Officials in their bid to host the WPL 2024.

Smriti Mandhana’s wish likely to be Granted

“It would be great to have WPL in the multi-city format. I think that might be the next step and I am sure the people right here would look into it and make it happen. As an RCB fan, I would love to play in Chinnaswamy where people are chanting ‘RCB RCB’ and just to be in that environment. That is something which is one step ahead for us that it (multi-city format) can reach to places where women’s cricket hasn’t reached and to get new audience going into women’s cricket,” said Smriti Mandhana.

The final confirmation regarding the venues will be officially revealed on 9th December when the Women’s Premier League 2024 Auction take place.
