Bench warming continues? Sanju Samson to be sidelined in IND vs SL 1st T20I

IND vs SL 1st T20I: Another India series but Sanju Samson set to be sidelined once again as Rishabh Pant continues to remain as first priority

The Gautam Gambhir era begins as India take on Sri Lanka in a three match T20I series. But it remains to be seen if Sanju Samson gets his chance in the team or not. The Rajasthan Royals skipper has been sidelined from the India Playing XI for quite sometime. He warmed the bench in the ICC T20 World Cup, and now he is set to fight for his place in the team with Rishabh Pant.

After an impressive outing in IPL 2024, Sanju Samson was selected to be a part of the India squad for the World Cup. But, the Indian think tank decided to play their bet with Rishabh Pant as Samson warmed the bench. And come now the IND vs SL series, it can be a repeat of the same.

Will Sanju Samson get chance in Playing XI?

Sanju Samson has tried everything to cement his place in the Indian Playing XI. Since last IPL 2024, he promoted himself up the order to bat at number 3 and flourished in that role. His only appearance in the T20 World Cup came in the warmup match against Bangladesh. Samson opened the innings with Rohit Sharma and was dismissed for 1 run from 6 deliveries.

While India has just 2 wicketkeepers in the form of Pant and Samson, the former is expected to get the nod ahead. Pant too saw a change in his batting position, now batting at number 3. With the top order and middle order occupied and others waiting for their chance, Samson’s stake have greatly reduced.

Samson won’t get a chance in the top order, neither is there any space down the order. It means that Samson will have to keep waiting in the fray to get his chance. The Kerala keeper-batter might get a chance if Pant is injured or is rested for a game.
