The Baz-ballers are at it again! The post-James Anderson era has started in a breathtaking fashion, with Ben Duckett going hammer and tongs to kickstart the second Test between England and the West Indies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Crawley gone, Duckett berserk
England’s Test started on a worrying note, with Alzarri Joseph dismissing Zak Crawley on the very third ball of the innings. Regardless, Duckett and number three batter Ollie Pope took the visitors aback with a blistering onslaught. Duckett, in particular, looked menacing, hammering 33 runs in just 14 balls. With this, England scripted history by mustering the fastest team fifty in Test cricket history. It took England just 4.2 overs, i.e., 26 balls.
Fastest Team 50 in Test History
Overs Taken | Team | Opp. (Year) |
---|---|---|
4.2 | England | West Indies (2024*) |
5.0 | England | Sri Lanka (2002) |
5.2 | Sri Lanka | Pakistan (2004) |
Duckett’s heroics helped him notch up his seventh Test fifty in just a matter of 32 balls. This is also now the joint-third-fastest by an Englishman (by balls faced). The fastest record of Ian Botham in 28 balls against India in Delhi remains intact.
