BCCI’s Sports Science head overseeing Jasprit Bumrah’s rehab quits, could end tenure by month end

The Sport Science head at NCA, Nitin Patel handled many high-profile cases like Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in the past.

IN a big blow to the BCCI, it seems like the head of Sports Science at the NCA, Nitin Patel is all set to leave the job. The latter who was responsible for bringing back many high-profile names to playing standards, will be leaving the new facility in Bengaluru soon, as per a report in Cricbuzz.

Nitin Patel to Quit NCA?

The report further suggested that Nitin Patel, who is a former India physio, is currently serving his notice period, and will be done by the end of this month. That means, the BCCI will need to advertise for this position once again, soon. It must be noted that Nitin Patel was responsible for the rehabs of some of the top players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and even Mohammed Shami.

Was Helping Jasprit Bumrah in Bengaluru

In fact, he is still managing the back injury of Jasprit Bumrah. Not just that, Nitin was the first appointee of the Sports science wing, which was touted as the dream project of former BCCI secretary Jay Shah. One of his biggest achievements was to get Bumrah and Iyer ready for the 2023 World Cup, who had both come back after surgeries. While the reason for his departure is still not known, but he has already submitted his papers.

If this all is true, it could be a big blow to MI and Team India, with uncertainty looming large over Bumrah’s fitness. Due to his back injury, the pacer was left out of the Champions Trophy squad as well. Meanwhile, IPL 2025 starts on March 22, and post that India vs England Test series will start in June.
