IPL 2023: BCCI has taken up a noble “Go Green” initiative in the ongoing IPL. In a bid to do its bit towards environmental conservation, the governing body will be planting 500 trees for every dot ball bowled during the entire playoffs. The BCCI didn’t give an official announcement regarding the initiative before the match. However the official broadcasters of the league showed a tree emoji in the scorecard in place of a dot ball. Later the broadcasters also called it ‘Green Dot Balls’.

As per the information from the live commentary during the match, “Green Dot Balls is a new sustainability initiative by the BCCI. 500 Trees will be planted for every dot ball bowled in all the matches in the playoffs.”

Winning the toss, Gujarat Titans opted to bowl first. Put into bat, Chennai Super Kings managed to post 172 on the board. As many as 34 dot balls has been recorded so far in the first innings. This has already contributed to as many as 17000 trees that are set to be planted across the country.

Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings finished at the top two spots on the points table and earned the rights to play in Qualifier 1. The winner of this contest is set to advance to the final directly.

While the losing team will still have one more opportunity as they will be playing in the Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad on Friday, 26th May 2023. The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday, 28th May.
