BCCI’s grand vision: Cricket’s new home in Chhattisgarh takes shape in Bilaspur

The necessity for a new cricketing venue arises from the challenges faced by the existing Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

In a groundbreaking development for cricket enthusiasts in Chhattisgarh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given its nod to construct the state’s first-ever international cricket stadium in Nyayadhani Bilaspur. Marking a significant milestone for both the city and the state, this venture promises to reshape the cricketing landscape in the region.

Set to be a colossal achievement for Chhattisgarh, the proposed international cricket stadium will be the first of its kind, solely developed and managed by the BCCI. The administration has initiated the search for a suitable expanse of 20 acres in Bilaspur to materialize this ambitious project, as reported by Dainik Bhaskar.

The Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the construction of the stadium.

The necessity for a new cricketing venue arises from the challenges faced by the existing Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. This facility, built by the state government, has encountered operational and managerial hurdles, with various state departments intervening in its functioning.

Notably, the Bilaspur stadium will mark a departure from this trend as it will be exclusively operated by the BCCI, providing a dedicated space for international cricket events without external interference.

BCCI takes initiative after Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium electricity saga

The decision gains significance in light of the recent incident during the fourth T20I clash between India and Australia at Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium on December 1. Reports emerged of electricity issues in parts of the stadium, a consequence of unpaid bills dating back to 2009. The outstanding bill amounting to Rs 3.16 crore led to power cuts in certain sections of the stadium.

To address these concerns and ensure seamless operations, the BCCI has taken the initiative to build a state-of-the-art international cricket stadium in Bilaspur. This move aims to enhance the cricketing experience for players and spectators alike, creating a facility that stands as a testament to Chhattisgarh’s commitment to the sport.

As the search for the perfect parcel of land commences, Bilaspur anticipates the dawn of a new era in cricket, with a stadium that not only promises world-class facilities but also alleviates the operational challenges faced by its predecessor in Raipur.

The BCCI investment in this project underscores the growing significance of Chhattisgarh in the national cricketing landscape, opening doors to new opportunities and possibilities for the region’s cricketing future.
