BCCI Review Meeting: India Cricket Overhaul: With the official review meeting in Mumbai coming to an end, BCCI has made some welcome changes. But changing in personnel was not discussed. However, with Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are both to be rotated throughout 2023, Hardik’s T20 captaincy will be a permanent move. However, coach Rahul Dravid has survived. He will stay on as the T20 coach and BCCI won’t look for a change immediately. Instead the coaching duties will be divided between VVS Laxman and Dravid for T20s. Dravid will focus on ODI and Tests. “Rohit is the captain of the ODI team and he will be rotated throughout the year for workload management. Same goes for Hardik. Rahul will stay on as the coach. We don’t think this is the right time to make a change in coaching. We still have some time for T20 World Cup. If needed, we can take a call later on,” a BCCI official who attended the meeting told InsideSport.

  • All 20 players will be rotated for the next 35 ODIs India will play in 2023.
  • For multi-format players, focus will be mainly on fitness.
  • The BCCI has asked VVS Laxman-led NCA to work with IPL franchises to monitor players’ fitness, espeically for those with a history of injuries.
  • “Keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023,” BCCI said.
  • The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of the selection criteria. It will be implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players.

To put it bluntly, there will be no T20 Reboot for the moment. Instead, the entire focus shifts to ODI World Cup 2023. BCCI will take any call on T20s only after 2023 WC.

“The Board reviewed the performances in 2022 and also discussed the road ahead. There were no specific discussions on change in personnel. It was a very constructive meeting where we reviewed the past performance and planned for the future events,” Sportstar quoted a source as saying.

Split Captaincy: Already done – Hardik Pandya is the T20 captain. But BCCI will not make it official for some time. Rohit may lead if Hardik gets injured or rested. India will only play 17 T20s in 2023. In ODIs, however, India will be significantly involved to prepare for ODI World Cup. India will play nearly 35 ODIs including the WC. hence, there will be a lot of rotations in T20s rather than ODIs.

Split Coaching: On Hold – BCCI has made no changes to their coaching policy for now. Rahul Dravid will stay on as the T20 coach. However, due to focus on ODIs and Tests, VVS Laxman will take charge of the T20 team for smaller tours. Any call on split coaching will be done with CAC’s advice. But it is not expected before October’s WC.

BCCI has also prepared a 20-member core group of players for the World Cup 2023. All 20 will be rotated in ODIs. They will only sparingly take part in T20s excluding multi-format players like Hardik.
