BCCI raises ‘unofficial’ complaint to ICC over pitch after Rohit Sharma injury scare in nets

With Rohit Sharma's injury status unclear and concerns lingering about the pitches, the Indian team faces an unexpected hurdle in their quest for T20 World Cup glory.

The Indian cricket team’s preparations for their crucial T20 World Cup match against Pakistan have been disrupted by a fresh injury concern for captain Rohit Sharma and concerns about the practice pitch in New York.

T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma takes a blow

During a practice session at Cantiague Park, just outside New York City, Rohit Sharma was struck on the thumb while facing throwdowns from Nuwan, a specialist bowling coach on Friday.

This incident comes just days after he was forced to retire hurt during the match against Ireland due to a sore arm.

While the BCCI has not confirmed the severity of the injury, Rohit was attended to by a physiotherapist and his participation in the upcoming match vs Pakistan remains uncertain.

Concerns mount over New York pitch conditions

The incident with Rohit Sharma has highlighted concerns about the practice pitch in New York. According to reports, former Indian captain Virat Kohli also faced difficulties batting due to the uneven bounce of the wicket.

These concerns come after a low-scoring match between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the main venue, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, raised questions about the suitability of the drop-in pitches being used for the tournament.

BCCI files unofficial complaint

In response to the latest incident, the BCCI has reportedly filed an “unofficial” complaint with the ICC regarding the practice pitch conditions as per Jagran.

This follows the ICC’s own acknowledgment of the substandard surfaces used in the opening matches and their efforts to “remedy” the issue for the remaining games.

Uncertainty looms for India Cricket Team

With Rohit Sharma’s injury status unclear and concerns lingering about the pitches, the Indian team faces an unexpected hurdle in their quest for T20 World Cup glory. The upcoming match against Pakistan is a high-pressure encounter, and the team will be hoping to overcome these challenges and emerge victorious.
