BCCI New Selection Committee: India Squad NZ Series: BCCI has set a salary package of Rs 1.25 Cr for the new chairman of selectors and Rs 1 Crore for other four members. Yet, the Indian board has not been able to attract big names. The only big name to apply is former India pacer, Venkatesh Prasad. With more Test experience, he could become the new chairman of selectors. But with no big names in the mix, the fired chief selector Chetan Sharma is still out of the race and nor Harvinder Singh. The new selection committee will pick the squad for NewZealand series. Follow India vs NewZealand LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The reasons are manifold. Firstly, many believe that Rs 1 Cr isn’t enough to sacrifice their existing assignments. Selectors will have to resign from their previous jobs with state teams or IPL or commentary positions. But with the salary package, it isn’t enough. Hence, Chetan Sharma and Harvinder Singh are still in the race to get a reappointment.

“Chetan has a good chance of either being retained as the chairman or at least the North Zone representative if he is willing to work under new chairman, whosoever it is. The truth is BCCI is not getting any top names. It is not that they haven’t sounded out anyone. If Chetan didn’t have a chance, why would he apply? There must have been some assurances given,” PTI quoted a BCCI source.

  • From East Zone SS Das of Odisha can be picked from East Zone.
  • From North Maninder Singh, Atul Wasan & Nikhil Chopra are in contention
  • Nayan Mongia is another name doing the rounds as a potential pick from Central Zone.
