BCCI New Selection Committee: IND vs NZ Series: Despite getting a month, BCCI hasn’t been able to finalise the new selection committee. It has led the Indian board to an embarrassing situation of asking the FIRED selectors to pick the squad for SriLanka series. However, with Apex Council formalising the Cricket Advisory committee, BCCI is now in a rush to get the interviews done and induct a new panel of selectors before the squad announcement of NewZealand series. Hence, a decision on Rohit Sharma T20 captaincy will be made only in new year. Follow IND vs SL LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
To have the new selectors announcing the squad for NZ series, BCCI has just 15 days left. IND vs NZ series starts on January 18. Considering the tight timeframe, BCCI is in dilemma. The Indian board could ask Chetan Sharma-led old selection committee to announce both squads.
“It will take some time. We are hoping to begin with the interviews only by next week i.e January. So, it will take a minimum of 10 days considering the amount of applications we have received. After Christmas, we will have a call with Chetan and his team on whether it is possible for them to announce both squads together,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport on Saturday.

In the worst-case scenario, the new selection committee will be in place only by January end. Their first job will be to pick the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. IND vs AUS Test series will start on February 9. While the new selection committee’s first job would have been to take big calls on Rohit Sharma’s T20 captaincy, instead it will be to do the immediate job.
“One has to admit there is the possibility that the new set of selectors will only come before Australia series. The auction delayed the process a bit. But we are doing everything we can to get things done fast. As for the T20 captaincy and everything, those are big calls and need detailed deliberation before taking the call. It can not be in a haste,” the official told InsideSport.
BIG Decisions the new selection committee will have to make:
- India Test squad for Australia series.
- Rohit Sharma’s T20 captaincy.
- KL Rahul’s place in T20 team.
- Blueprint for T20 World Cup 2024.
Who appoints new selection committee?
CAC will now interview the shortlisted candidates and take a call by next week. However, the new BCCI and CAC aren’t sure about giving a 2nd chance to the former chairman of the selection committee Chetan Sharma. He has reapplied for the job. The CAC and selectors will have a big task ahead including a decision on India T20 Reboot.
“We have the CAC in place. We are shortlisting candidates for the selection committee at the moment. We should have the names by next week. The CAC will conduct the interviews and finalise the list,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
