It is a wide-known fact that the BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world, but no one really knew, how much. If a report by Cricbuzz is to be believed, the Indian board is head and shoulders above any other board across the world. It would be an understatement of sorts to say just that. Currently, the net worth of the BCCI is estimated at USD 2.25 billion, which is INR 18,700 crore approximately.
This is not even the best part. The next richest cricket board is Cricket Australia, which has a net worth of USD 79 million, which roughly translates to INR 600 crore. It would only be fair to say, that the IPL has played a significant role in all this, ever since its advent in 2008. Things have only been uphill for the BCCI since then.
If this is not enough, Cricket South Africa, which is playing hosts to Team India for a full-fledged, all-format series, is in the sixth spot. Their net worth is estimated at only USD 47 million, which is only 2% of BCCI’s net worth. ECB completes the big three though, with a net worth of USD 59 million. While it is not confirmed, PCB’s net worth could be around USD 55 million.
India vs South Africa to Generate Big Revenue
The report further suggests that the India vs South Africa series could be a game-changer for Cricket South Africa, as they are expected to generate a revenue of USD 68.7 million, for playing 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and two Tests. Cricket South Africa has incurred losses of $6.3 million, $10.5 million, and $11.7 million in the last three years, respectively, and that amount would be enough to wipe them off.
