End of the road for Salil Ankola? BCCI invites fresh applications for selection committee

BCCI has floated an advertisement inviting applications for a position in the India men's selection committee

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for the position in the men’s selection committee, as per a latest advertisement floated on its website. While the vacancy is just for one position, it is not clear which of the current selectors would exit the committee.

BCCI floats application for position in selection committee

The last date for submitting the applications is January 25 following which the shortlisted candidates would be called for personal interviews for further evaluation. The persons applied should have retired from cricket five years before and shouldn’t have been a part of any Cricket Committee in the last five years. Apart from this, the applicants should have played a minimum of 7 Tests or 30 first-class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 FC games.

The current selection committee is comprised of Ajit Agarkar (Chairperson), Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Sridharan Sharath. It is most likely that Salil Ankola will exit the Committee and that his replacement will be drawn from the North Zone most likely.

Ankola, who is from the West Zone, was selected in the Committee in 2020. Meanwhile, Ajit Agarkar – the current chairperson – entered the committee from the West Zone in 2023. As it is the BCCI’s norm to name a selector each from the five different zone, it only makes sense for Ankola to pave way for a new selector from the North Zone.
