BCCI in hiring mode: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for batting, bowling (fast & spin), and fielding coaches at National Cricket Academy. The deadline to apply for these positions is September 10, as per the official website. The age limit of the candidates at NCA is 60 years.

The development comes as BCCI has decided not to renew the annual contracts of as many as 11 coaches at the NCA, Bengaluru. Last year, the BCCI had decided not to renew their contracts which includes retired cricketers- Ramesh Powar, Sujith Somsundar, Subroto Banerjee, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and SS Das.

Current coaches at NCA

Batting– Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Shiv Sundar Das

Bowling– Ramesh Powar (Spin) and Subroto Banerjee (Pace)

Head of Cricket Education– Sujith Somasundar

It is notable that Powar and Das are now the ‘Head coach’ and ‘Batting coach’ of India women respectively.

After a brief period of inactivity due to COVID-19, BCCI is in fully functional mode again. It recently conducted a level 2 hybrid course spanning eight days for cricket coaches. It included former India cricketers Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Nayar, Ashok Dinda, Devang Gandhi, Naman Ojha, and Parveez Rasool.

Earlier, the BCCI had extended the deadline to apply for the post of ‘Head of Cricket’ at the NCA till August 31. Former India captain Rahul Dravid had reapplied for the position. The development ends all the speculations of him replacing Ravi Shastri as Head coach of India after the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“The Head Cricket NCA will be overall responsible for running all Cricket Coaching programs at the NCA. He will be responsible for the preparation, development and performance of all cricketers attending training at the Academy,” read the job description on the BCCI website.
