Ajit Agarkar, who had recently been appointed as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, joined the Indian camp in West Indies during the second Test match in Port of Spain. The former cricketer conducted a meeting with Team India coach Rahul Dravid along with senior members like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The meeting marked Agarkar’s first discussion with the team ever since he was appointed to the chairman’s role by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Ajit Agarkar will be holding multiple discussions with the Indian team during the team’s entire tour of West Indies. He will also be extending his stay to be part of India’s subsequent white-ball series against the West Indies. The primary focus of these meetings will be to strategize and plan for the upcoming World Cup in 2023 and the T20 World Cup next year.
The discussions will likely revolve around Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and the potential return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to the Indian squad, as they are nearing full recovery. Alongside this, a group of players for the ODI World Cup has already been identified, indicating that the selection process is well underway.
Ajit Agarkar will also have additional conversations with Team India seniors Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma about their involvement in the T20 World Cup next year. Both players have not been part of India’s T20I squad since the disappointing exit from last year’s tournament in Australia. Reports suggest that the BCCI may not consider them for future T20I plans, and there are indications that Hardik Pandya could continue as the team’s captain in the format.
The much-awaited ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India in October and November of this year, with India also participating in the ODI Asia Cup in Sri Lanka prior to the major event. Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup in 2024 will be held around June next year in West Indies and the United States.
