The BCCI discussed the new contracts during the Apex Council meeting in December, it was put on hold for the new selection committee to take charge. Among the big discussions were out of favour senior players.

Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha will all get the axe. Mayank Agarwal is also likely to face the boot after a string of unconvincing performances. Shikhar Dhawan is also set to be dropped from the contracts after falling out of favour.

The good news is that Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will get the promotion. Hardik Pandya is currently in Grade B. As he has taken over T20 captaincy from Rohit Sharma, he will get a promotion to Grade A. SKY is also set to be promoted to Grade A. Shubman Gill is the other star who is set to be promoted to Grade A.

The Grade A+ is set to remain unchanged with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul featuring in the list.

Shubman Gill on the other hand is now an all-format regular. He is currently in the Grade C bracket and will get a promotion to A Grade. Ishan Kishan will also enter the list along with Umran Malik and some new faces in Grade C.

Players set for salary increase? – Another point of discussion is the increase in players’ salary. Despite being the current contracts being one of the best in the world, England and Australia pay their top players more. With a huge infusion of cash, BCCI is mulling a change in salary structure. The current pay slab has been in place since 2017-18 season.

The Vinod Rai-led CoA introduced the Grade A+ slab with Rs 7 all format specialists getting Rs 7 Crore. Since then, the BCCI has maintained four slabs of Rs 7 Cr, Rs 5 Cr, Rs 3 Cr and Rs 1 Cr.

InsideSport understands that the highest category slab of Rs 7 Crore is under discussion to become Rs 10 Cr. Rs 5 Crore slab is likely to become 7 Crore and players in Grade B and C could earn around Rs 5 and 3 Crore, respectively.

“Yes, it is under consideration. See, every 5 years, the annual salary increases. Our players are also due a raise. With more and more cricket at this moment, I think the players deserve it. But it is a collective decision and everyone has to come on board. But if you compare it with England’s salaries, our players earn more from match fees,” the senior BCCI official said.
