Rahul Dravid and his support staff departed the team following their conclusion of contracts after the T20 World Cup. Initially, Dravid’s contract ran till the end of the ODI World Cup. But the BCCI gave him a contract extension till the T20 World Cup. And with Dravid not willing to continue, it was Gambhir who becomes the best fit for the Men in Blue.
“India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!,” Gambhir said after his appointment.
As per reports, the BCCI interviewed Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman for the post of the head coach of the India Cricket Team. But in the end it is the former who has got the coveted job. And now the BCCI will give a free reign to Gambhir to choose his desired support staff.
