BCCI announce central contracts, No place for Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara

BCCI Central Contracts: End of the road, No place for Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara ignored despite Ranji Trophy heroics

The BCCI has announced it’s central contracts for the 2023-24 year. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer failed to get a contract after missing out on domestic games. The top stars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli retained their A+ contract, but it has been the end of the road for the veterans like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane.

The dependable duo have been out of the pegging order for quite sometime. Rahane continues to have a disastrous form even in the domestic circuit. But on the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara has been excellent in Ranji Trophy. He has maintained a stellar form but that didn’t yield anything.

BCCI Centrally Contracted Players – Full List

Grade A+ (4 Athletes) – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.

Grade A (6 Athletes) – R Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.

Grade B (5 Athletes) – Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Grade C (15 Athletes) – Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.

The BCCI in a firm statement announced that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were considered for sselection. “Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations,” read BCCI’s statement.

The BCCI further has claimed that players need to give precedence to Domestic Cricket when are not participating for the nation. “The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team,” the BCCI statement read.
