BCCI AGM LIVE – BCCI Elections LIVE – Sourav Ganguly CAB Representative: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has chosen BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to be their representative at the BCCI AGM on October 18. A decision on fresh elections will be taken during the annual general meeting in Mumbai. However, Ganguly’s future as the BCCI President remains unclear. It is likely that Jay Shah will become the new President with Ganguly contesting ICC Elections in November. Follow Indian Cricket LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

As per a Cricbuzz report, instead of sending CAB President Abhishek Dalmiya, it has nominated Ganguly to be their representative. InsideSport earlier reported that Supreme Court Verdict cleared the way for BCCI to amend the constitution. With the age-cap removed and the cooling-off period revised, it has allowed both Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly to remain in their positions for another three-year term.

The BCCI has already appointed an electoral officer. AK Jyothi has returned as the electoral officer and she will send the election notifications in due course. Secretary Jay Shah will send the AGM notification this week. On the same day of AGM, fresh elections will be held.

As reported by InsideSport earlier, Jay Shah is all but certain to win the election for President. That will oust the current President and former India captain Sourav Ganguly, marking an end to his tenure. Treasurer Arun Dhumal is expected to be the next secretary.

As for Ganguly, BCCI will discuss his position during the AGM before going ahead with the elections. Brijesh Patel is expected to be BCCI’s representative to the ICC while Anirudh Chaudhary is touted to be the next treasurer. Rajeev Shukla is likely to reclaim the IPL Chairman role.

BCCI Elections LIVE: End of road for Sourav Ganguly at BCCI?

  • As things stand, it is likely the end of road for Ganguly at the BCCI.
  • In 2019, he became the first Indian cricketer to be elected president after a late night drama.
  • Brijesh Patel who was slated for the role was replaced by Ganguly with backing from Jay Shah and N Srinivasan camp.
  • However, things have changed. His public feud with Virat Kohli hasn’t put him in good light.
  • Furthermore, allegations regarding him attending selection meeting have also damaged his clean image.
  • But as an administrator, Ganguly is here to stay.
  • If Graig Barclay refuses to stand in the election for a second term, Ganguly is the favourite for the ICC chairman role.
  • However, if he does, Ganguly can be BCCI’s representative to the ICC.
  • As per an Indian Express report, Shah has already received support from 15 state associations.
  • Shah is touted to be the main man for BCCI pocketing over Rs 48,000 crore from IPL Media Rights.
  • Ganguly with his health struggles has been in the shadows more often.

Who will be BCCI’s representative to the ICC? – However, it is not just Shah fraction that is powerful. Former chief N Srinivasan still has influence inside the board. One cannot rule out his comeback. He is back in the picture after the removal of age cap.

Sourav Ganguly and Rajeev Shukla’s names have also come up to represent the board. However, it is likely that the former Indian captain will pass it to the more experienced member. Brijesh Patel is also set to continue as the age cap has been removed. Hence, he too will be eligible.

“It is an interesting situation. Mr Srinivasan is definitely a powerful member and also an asset for the board. He has single-handedly helped BCCI retain more power than other boards in the ICC. So, he is certainly one of the favourites. But at the same time, he is 77 and with his declining health, it is doubtful how well he could serve the BCCI at the ICC,” the official said.
