BCB unsure of Shakib Al Hasan’s participation in AFG vs BAN ODIs after missing Dhaka Test

Shakib Al Hasan plans on retiring from ODI format after the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is unsure about Shakib Al Hasan’s participation in the upcoming Afghanistan vs Bangladesh ODI series to be held in UAE. After the conclusion of the BAN vs SA Test series, the two Asian countries will lock horns in a 3-match ODI series as preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Though the selectors went on to meet in Mirpur, no decision has been taken regarding Shakib Al Hasan‘s participation in the tournament. Recently, Shakib’s farewell from Test cricket couldn’t take place. He was slated to play his last Test match back at home in Dhaka. But that couldn’t happen as the player didn’t return home amidst major security concerns.

Will Shakib play AFG vs BAN ODI series?

“The board will inform us regarding Shakib’s availability. It’s not about only Shakib. There might be injury concerns regarding any player and there can be personal issues as well. When the board informs us, we will make our selection. We will do it after the second Test,” National selector Hannan Sarker told The Daily Star.

“We are waiting for our president to return. We are set to make an ODI team after a long time [first time since the Sri Lanka series in March]. So, we are looking to make the team after consulting with the president.”

As things stand, Shakib’s farewell from Test now remains unclear. As for the ODIs, the former Bangladesh Cricket Team captain plans on hanging his boots from the format after the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
