BBL 2024: Warner’s Novak Djokovic banter works on Steve Smith, batter walks back for a duck

Smith had played tennis with Novak Djokovic just a day before during a charity event.

David Warner has been known for taking the game to the opposition. He took that to a new level earlier today in the Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder match in the BBL 2024. With Steve Smith walking in to play the first ball of the match, David Warner hit his teammate with a Novak Djokovic jab that seemed to have knocked out the modern’s great focus.

Talking about his meeting with Djokovic at the Australian Open 2024, Warner poked fun at Steve Smith.

“We might see a bit of top side,” said Warner while being mic’d up jokingly to ensure Smith doesn’t get into the right head space.

The commentators then asked Warner, “You are trying to distract him, getting under his skin a bit?

Hyping Steve Smith up, Warner replied, “Nothing distracts him; nothing ever distracts him.”

And voila, Smith hits the very first ball in the air and walks back for a golden duck. The batter put his head down in despair, and Sydney Thunder took the perfect start thanks to David Warner.
