Earlier today, David Warner made a grand entrance into the SCG. The opener did so ahead of the BBL 2024 match between the Sydney Thunder and the Sydney Sixers.
Warner plays for the Thunders in the Big Bash League and made the spectacular helicopter entry due to a time shortage. The southpaw was attending his brother’s wedding and, due to the shortage of time, decided to take the air route.
However, it seems like his opponent from the Sixers took Warner’s entrance as a challenge. All-rounder Sean Abbott decided to one-up his BBL rival and national teammate by making his own grand entrance.
While David Warner took the air route, Abbott decided to take the land route. Funnily enough, Abbott wasn’t challenging him but rather mocking him. The all-rounder decided to bike his way to the SCG while mockingly waving to his fans on an empty street.
Despite Abbott’s harmless joke, a lot stands on the line when the Sixers and Thunder clash today. As of now, only one team has qualified for the BBL 2024 playoffs.
Both the Thunder and Sixers are in contention for the last three spots. Currently, Abbott’s Sixers have a better chance with four wins from eight matches, while the Thunder have just one win from their eight matches.
If the Thunder manage to win, they’ll remain in contention, while a loss will knock them out. Meanwhile, the Sixers will all but qualify with a win at the SCG.
