Battling spin: Kohli’s intense preparation for CSK’s threat in Chennai

Virat Kohli's spin weakness might return to haunt him in RCB vs CSK, with Chennai's spinners already proving their worth at the venue

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli was seen sweating it out in the nets against spinners in Chennai on Wednesday. The opener has struggled against spin in the recent times, especially in white-ball formats. With RCB set to take on CSK next, Kohli is very well aware of the threat posed by the likes of Noor Ahmed, Ashwin, Jadeja and others in Chepauk.

Virat gears up for spin trouble in Chennai

Seven out of Kohli’s last eight dismissals in 50-over format have come against spinners. In IPL 2025 opener against KKR, Virat was more comfortable playing against pacers than the spinner duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. Although the spinners tasted very little success on that night, the RCB batter only managed to score 15 runs off 9 deliveries from Chakravarthy and 9 runs off 11 deliveries from Narine.

Beware of CSK’s spin prowess, Kohli!

CSK spinners, led by young Noor Ahmed, showed what they were capable of at home in the very first game. The Afghanistan bowler finished with astonishing figures of 4/18 on his CSK debut. Ashwin managed to get one wicket on his return to the team after 10 years. Jadeja, who went wicketless, bowled economically, conceding just 21 runs in 3 overs. All three spinners are capable of troubling Virat Kohli in the upcoming encounter.

RCB and CSK in IPL 2025

Kohli managed to stay unbeaten on 59 runs in RCB’s IPL 2025 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajat Patidar and co. managed to race to a 7-wicket win with 22 balls remaining. The unit will return to action after almost a week’s break. CSK, on the other hand, also started the tournament on a victorious note. Gaikwad & co. beat arch-rivals Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets, with five balls remaining.
