And there we have it—the first-ever 300+ innings total in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) match. Not only this, they surpassed the “World Record” as well, scoring the highest ever T20 total. Yes, Baroda, led by Krunal Pandya, launched an absolute mayhem against a hapless Sikkim side. Baroda breached the 300-run mark within the 18th over of the innings after opting to bat first. All this destruction came without their superstar, Hardik Pandya, who sat out of this game. Baroda smashed 349/5, surpassing the previous highest T20 total of 344/4 set by Zimbabwe against Gambia in October this year.

Krunal Pandya’s history-making Baroda team
Baroda launched a scathing attack on Sikkim in Indore. Coming on the back of 5 wins out of 6 games, Baroda batted first and went on an all-out attack. Veteran Shashwant Rawat scored 43 off 16. His opening partner, Abhimanyusingh Rajput made 53 off 17 and the duo had an opening partnership of 92 off 31, setting a blazing platform for the rest of the team. Bhanu Pania, a relatively unknown batter from Baroda, stunned everyone with a historic batting performance, reaching his maiden century in just 42 deliveries. Prior to this, Pania’s domestic T20 record was modest, with 461 runs in 35 matches, only one half-century, and a strike rate of 135.98. Bhanu struck at a superb rate of 262.75, hammering just 5 fours and a total of 15 sixes.
Incredibly, a total of 37 sixes were hit at the ground shown above. While there’s no doubt that the small boundaries played it’s part, batters had to put it away. Baroda were without their mega star Hardik Pandya but still the other youngsters formed up to create a massive record. Shivalik Sharma, who was selected by the Mumbai Indians (MI) last season, also mustered runs at 323.53, scoring 17-ball 55. Meanwhile, Vishnu Solanki, a veteran for Baroda, got to his fifty in only 16 balls.
