The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially named Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the team’s vice captain for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The announcement came on Thursday, confirming the 27-year-old all-rounder’s elevation to the leadership group as Bangladesh prepare for the highly anticipated tournament. They will depart for Dubai and not Pakistan tonight (Feb 13). This is because Bangladesh have their first match against India, who will play all their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai.
New vice-captain for Bangladesh at ICC Champions Trophy
Mehidy, an experienced campaigner with over 180 international appearances under his belt, has been a key figure in Bangladesh cricket. He recently captained the national side in the West Indies in the absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was sidelined due to injury. His appointment as vice-captain is a sensible call by the management.
Bangladesh is set to depart for Dubai tonight (February 13) as they gear up for their opening fixture against India on February 20. The clash against the title contenders will be a stern test for the Tigers, who will be looking to start their campaign on a strong note.

Following their Dubai showdown, Bangladesh will head to Pakistan to complete their Group A fixtures. They will face New Zealand on February 24 before locking horns with hosts Pakistan on February 27. With a tough group ahead, Bangladesh will need to be at their best to progress to the knockout stages.
Notably, pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed will accompany the squad to Dubai for training. Their presence will provide the team with additional pace-bowling options as they fine-tune their strategies for the tournament.
