Bangladesh spinners eye 2007 repeat in IND vs BAN World Cup clash on “mystery” Pune pitch

Bangladesh had defeated the Men in Blue in the first IND vs BAN ODI World Cup clash back in 2007 in West Indies.

Bangladesh will eyeing to repeat the antics of 2007 World Cup as they take on the home side in the IND vs BAN World Cup clash. To note, the match will be played at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The Bangladesh side started well in their campaign but have lost their way after the opening encounter. On the other hand, team India has won its all three matches so far and they will be looking to make it four wins in a row.

As mentioned above, the Bangladeshi side will be looking to repeat their antics of 2007 ODI WC. During that match, the spinners claimed a total of six wickets as Abdur Razzak, Mohammad Rafique and Shakib al Hasan bamboozled the Indian batting line-up by claiming six wickets together. Not only Bangladesh won that match but the win also ensured that the Men in Blue get knocked out of the marquee event. However, a win this time won’t come easy for the Bangla Tigers as they look to weave their spin magic once again on a tricky Pune track.

Shakib & Mehedi might play crucial roles in spin department

Without a doubt, the onus will be on the Bangladeshi spinners to not only stem the flow of runs in the middle overs but also look to get wickets on regular intervals. The visitors have a quality spin department with the likes of Shakib al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and even Mahmudullah can prove to be fatal for the Indian side.

The Indians have been brutal against the spin bowling in the tournament so far. Skipper Rohit Sharma has dominated against the slow bowling and he might play a crucial role against Bangladesh as well. The home side will be vary of the spin threat from Bangladesh on a possible sluggish pitch of Pune.

Pitch Report:

The surface at the MCA Stadium is generally a good one especially with the new ball. However, the scoring rate tends to go down once the ball gets a little, old and soft. The pacers might get some movement with the new ball as the likes of Taskin Ahmed, Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman will want to make the most of it. The skipper winning the toss might want to field first and bat under the lights.
