The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) quashed rumours of the team members having not gotten the prize money for the ODI World Cup in 2023. The board’s statement comes after general secretary of Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh claimed that there was a delay in the disbursement of the prize money. The ODI World Cup, which was hosted by India, concluded in October 2023.
Did Bangladesh players get prize money for ODI World Cup?
The BCB pointed fingers at taxation formalities and compliance issues for the delay in disbursing the prize money. The board has also appointed a renowned international accounting firm that has processed the application of the relavant players. The statement added that the formalities had only been completed recently and that the prize money is expected to be credited in the coming days.
“The BCB would like to clarify that the delay is not deliberate or due to any negligence on the part of the Board. Prize money for major International Cricket Council (ICC) events, such as the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, is typically received within a few months following the tournament’s conclusion,” BCB said in a statement on Tuesday.
BCB’s warning to dissenters
“The BCB strongly refutes the untrue remarks made by the concerned councillor and vehemently protests the insinuations of malpractice against the Board and its officials on this matter. Such allegations are baseless and undermine the integrity of the BCB’s operations,” the statement added.
