BAN vs SL: Bangladesh skipper takes bizarre, unnecessary review for LBW against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat in the second Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram

Bangladesh are desperate for redemption as they play the second Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. During day 1 of the BAN vs SL Test, the Bangladesh cricket team made an unusual decision by opting for a review that seemed unnecessary.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment when Bangladesh chose to review a delivery that appeared far from hitting the batsman’s pad for a potential LBW.

The incident unfolded during the 44th over of the innings, delivered by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. Right-handed batsman Kusal Mendis made a slight movement down the track and played the ball towards the off side.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, positioned at slip, consulted with the bowler before deciding to use the Decision Review System (DRS). However, replays clearly showed that the ball had struck the middle of the bat, rendering the review unnecessary.

In the first Test, Sri Lanka secured a significant victory over Bangladesh by 328 runs. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl, managing to dismiss Sri Lanka for 280 runs in the first innings. Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis both notched centuries for Sri Lanka, while Khaled Ahmed and Nahid Rana claimed three wickets each for Bangladesh.
