India’s damning loss to the Proteas in the IND vs SA 1st Test has put Indian captain Rohit Sharma in an uneasy place. The defeat has led to questions being raised on Rohit Sharma’s leadership skills. Now, former Indian cricketer Subramanian Badrinath has advocated in favour of Virat Kohli captaining India’s Test side.

India suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of South Africa within three days. The defeat ended India’s dreams of winning their first Test series in South Africa. As a Test captain, Virat Kohli has made more than 5000 runs at an average of more than 52 and has a record of 40 wins and 17 defeats in 68 matches. He has also led India to an historic Test series victory against Australia.

“Kohli is an exceptional Test captain with over 5000 runs, 40 wins, and 17 losses in 68 Tests. He led the team to a remarkable victory in the Australia series and has the fourth-most wins as Test captain,” Subramaniam Badrinath said on his YouTube channel.

“Why isn’t Virat Kohli the Test team captain? He’s a better Test batter than Rohit. Why is a weaker player leading instead of him? Although Rohit Sharma has been in and out, he’s a big player and has scored runs everywhere. But he hasn’t proven himself as an opener outside India. So, why is he there?” Badrinath added.
