India’s young batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has become the ‘new king’ after scoring a brilliant century in the second innings of the India vs Australia first test in Perth on Sunday. After getting out for zero in the first innings, Jaiswal bounced back and made history by scoring a century at Perth. Not only did he score a century, but he also achieved the highest score by any visiting player at the Perth Stadium. He is currently batting at 141.
During the lunch break during IND vs AUS 1st Test Day 3, experts discussed Jaiswal’s performance. Sanjay Manjrekar explained the difference between Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Manjrekar on Jaiswal’s unique style
Talking about Jaiswal’s uppercut, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “The cut shows that he has white ball instincts. Usually, players take position for a cut early, but he plays it very late.”
Comparison with Virat Kohli
Discussing how Jaiswal is different from Virat Kohli, Manjrekar added, “The new king likes to be on the back foot, unlike Virat Kohli who prefers to be on the front foot. As a result of that, he consistently performs with runs behind the square. This is something Virat Kohli might need to consider.”
Support from KL Rahul
Matthew Hayden also discussed the innings and mentioned how KL Rahul supported Yashasvi Jaiswal. “Yashasvi Jaiswal has demonstrated an incredible performance, with KL Rahul on the other end supporting him. Watching Rahul guide the game with good play in both the first and second innings shows his hunger and shot-making ability,“ Hayden said.
Early success after debut for Jaiswal
Jaiswal started his Test career against the West Indies in 2023 and has played 25 matches so far. He has already scored a double century in Test cricket, showing his promise to be a key player in India’s batting line-up for years ahead.
