‘Babar in Tests is different from ODI and T20’ Mudassar Nazar criticises Babar Azam’s Test drawback

Mudassar Nazar brings out Babar Azam's drawback in Test cricket as compared to white ball cricket

Babar Azam’s poor Test outing in the PAK vs AUS 1st Test has brought in some criticism. Former Pakistan batter Mudassar Nazar has went on to claim that there is stark difference of Babar batting in T20Is and ODIs to that of his batting in Tests. After giving up his captaincy after ODI World Cup, Babar played for his country in the first Test match which Australia comfortably won by a margin of 360 runs in Perth.

Mudassar Nazar has claimed that Babar is an excellent batter in the red ball cricket, but his tendency to chase the ball is the only negative in the ex Pakistan skipper.

“The performance of Babar in Tests is quite different from his ODI and T20 performances. Although, he is an excellent Test batsman, but he chases the ball a little [in Tests]. In Perth Test, he faced both deliveries that would have gotten any batter out, and there was nothing he could do about it. It was that sort of a pitch that anyone can get out at any time,” Nazar told Cricket Pakistan.

On the other hand, Nazar further made a few comments on Pakistan’s new Test skipper Shan Masood. Nazar asserted that he is yet to form any opinion on Shan as a captain. He further sympathised by saying Shan has been made the skipper in a series where there is no spot for him in the team.

“I haven’t formed an opinion [about Shan as captain], but I am against the idea of bringing somebody out of the blue and then making them captain just because they know English; this is not the right thing to do. Shan is a very fine player in his own. If he had been consistently performing in the team and was made captain, that would have been fine. Poor guy, what can he do? He was made captain during such a difficult series when there was no spot for him in the team,” he concluded.
