In the first Australia vs Pakistan Test, former skipper Babar Azam failed miserably once again, bringing to the fore, his poor record in the longest format, since the turn of the year. While in the first innings at Perth, he scored 21, in the second, in a chase of over 400 runs, he was dismissed for 14.
Now the failure in this Test means, Babar has gone without scoring a fifty in the last eight innings. The last time he crossed the milestone was, during his innings of 161 vs New Zealand in Karachi, in December 2022. Post that, his scores read as poor 14, 24, 27, 13, 24, 39, 21,24.
That means, in the four Tests Babar has played in 2023, he has scored only 162 runs, at an average of 23. This is in stark contrast to his overall Test career, where in 47 Tests, he has scored 3772 runs, at an average of 47.74.
Lean Patch After World Cup Continues for Babar Azam
As per his own high standards, Babar had a poor World Cup 2023 as well, where Pakistan was ousted in the group stages. In the nine matches he played, he managed to score 320 runs. Although he had four fifties to his name, they could hardly contribute much since his strike rate during the World Cup was 82.90.
Later, he stepped down from the captaincy role, which seems to have affected his form now.
