Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam surpassed Martin Guptill for most T20I runs on January 12 (Friday). Thanks to his fifty against New Zealand, Babar Azam is third on the list, behind his Indian counterparts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for most runs in the 20-over format.
Having gone past Guptill’s tally of 3531 runs in 122 games, Babar Azam now has 3542 runs in 105 games. He averages well above 40 with three centuries and has a best of 122 in the 20-over format. Team India star batter Virat Kohli heads the list with 4008 runs in 115 appearances, followed by Rohit Sharma, who has 3863 runs in a record 148 T20I games.
On Friday, Babar Azam slammed a 35-ball 57 against NZ in a losing cause. He stroked six boundaries and two maximums in his innings. The right-handed batter added 27 runs with Fakhar Zaman before stitching a 40-run stand with Iftikhar Ahmed. He later, compiled 29 runs with Azam Khan. Although they lost wickets, Babar kept the scoreboard moving. Despite his heroics, Pakistan were bundled out for 180, falling short by 46 runs.
