Decision review? Babar Azam calls home in Pakistan to get right call on saris

Pakistan captain was earlier also spotted playing golf in the City of Joy.

Babar Azam, one of the best cricket players globally and the captain of Pakistan, recently found himself in a relatable situation – shopping for women’s clothes. He dove into the experience, purchasing seven saris from a store in a south Calcutta mall.

However, Babar Azam, just like anyone else, sought approval from his family back in Pakistan before finalizing his choices, making a lengthy video call to discuss the saris with them.

Accompanied by his teammate, Imam-ul-Haq, who is the nephew of the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq, the duo spent almost two hours exploring the South City Mall.

The Soch store on the third floor became their primary destination, where Babar Azam selected seven saris, predominantly made of chiffon georgette. The store employee shared with The Telegraph that Azam was impressed with their collection but wanted the women in his family to give the ultimate approval.

So, he hopped on a WhatsApp video call for a detailed discussion.

Babar Azam dilemma

Despite being a cricket superstar hailing from Lahore, Pakistan, and fluent in Punjabi, Azam faced the same dilemmas as any regular person when it came to choosing the perfect saris.

The shopping spree also included stops at other stores like Zara, known for its trendy and fast fashion, where both Azam and Haq picked up clothes. Afterward, they visited Sunglass Hut on the first floor, where Babar Azam added a stylish Tom Ford wayfarer to his collection.

The cricketers, looking relaxed in holiday-appropriate outfits – Babar Azam in an orange tee with chinos and Haq in a green tee with shorts, attracted quite a crowd during their visit to the mall.

However, heavy security, including police and guards, prevented fans from getting autographs or photos with the players. Despite the frenzy, the security team effectively managed the situation, keeping the eager fans at a distance.

Insidesport

According to a store manager in the mall, the level of security deployed for the players was quite unusual, highlighting the importance of safety. Police sources familiar with the protocol for the Pakistan contingent clarified that the players couldn’t interact with fans due to safety protocols.

Interestingly, the mall authorities learned about the visit only 15 minutes before the players arrived. A senior IPS officer emphasized that information about the schedule or location of foreign cricket players is sensitive, posing a potential security concern.

Man Mohan Bagree, vice-president of South City Projects, expressed the mall’s excitement to host Babar Azam and Haq, emphasizing that their safety was the top priority, citing a previous visit by Pakistani fast bowler Hasan Ali and his family.

Earlier, Babar Azam was also spotted playing golf in the City of Joy.
