Axar Patel Injury: DC vs KKR – Team India will nervously fret about the fitness of star all-rounder Axar Patel. The left-hander was visibly uncomfortable on Thursday, after a strain on his groin during the Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders clash. While Axar did manage to play on and finish the game, the captain Rohit Sharma will be keen for his star player to be fit with the WTC Final on the horizon. Axar Patel was once again the leading man for Delhi Capitals as they registered their first win of IPL 2023. In a low-scoring contest, the left-hander played a scratchy knock to see his team over the finish line at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. Axar managed an unbeaten 19 off 22 balls, hitting the winning runs.
While Patel’s form has been top-notch, there were warning signs during the game. The all-rounder was visibly uncomfortable and hurt by his groin trying to play KKR spinner, Varun Chakravarthy. He eventually stayed on, running raggedly even needing to dive in the final over.
While the injury was nothing major, the Indian team and Delhi Capitals will both look into the source of discomfort. India are due to name their squad for the World Test Championship in the coming weeks and Axar is a vital part of the set-up. He bowled his quota of overs and has featured in all 6 games, having also played all four Tests during the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
