Axar Patel isn’t miffed about Rohit Sharma denying him a hat-trick. The Indian captain had dropped a dolly in the India vs. Bangladesh match, which stopped Axar from becoming the first Indian to take a hat-trick at the ICC Champions Trophy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
Axar Patel ‘okay’ with Rohit Sharma denying him a hat-trick
Rohit Sharma was himself pissed off about dropping the catch. He first slammed the ground in anger to let his frustration out and then apologised to Axar after it. The all-rounder has said, what happened is part of the game. There are days when you take blinders and then drop dollies like Rohit did.
Axar revealed that he first didn’t know that he had gotten the wicket of Tanzid Hasan. Only after KL Rahul appealed and umpire Paul Reiffel gave it out did the all-rounder realise he’d gotten the wicket. The second wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim was straightforward, and then the unfortunate drop of Jaker Ali happened.
Naturally, Axar was unhappy about missing the opportunity of creating history, but he walked about as if nothing had happened and continued to give his best.
“A lot happened (about the hat-trick). I didn’t know if it (Tanzid Hasan wicket) was out, but KL (Rahul) appealed, and it was out. Then, I got the second wicket (Mushfiqur Rahim). The third one, when the edge was found, I thought I got my hat-trick. It was an eventful over. I started to celebrate, and then I saw it (Rohit Sharma dropping the catch). I didn’t react and just came back. Everyone makes mistakes,” Axar Patel told Harsha Bhogle after the first innings ended.
