AO 2024: Novak Djokovic levels Federer’s QF record with easy win over Mannarino

This is the 14th time Djokovic has made it to the quarterfinal stage of the Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic has reached his 14th quarterfinal at the Australian Open and leveled Roger Federer‘s record of reaching the most Grand Slam quarterfinals (58). The 10-time AO champion schooled another veteran, Adrian Mannarino, to become the first man to reach the quarterfinal at the Australian Open 2024.

Such was Djokovic’s dominance that he bagelled Mannarino in the first two sets. The 36-year-old faced slight resistance from his opponent in the third set but eventually won 6-0, 6-0, 6-4 in just 1 hour and 44 minutes.

Playing an incredibly tired Mannarino who had played three consecutive five-setters, Novak Djokovic was extremely clinical. Having already played touch opponents in his first three matches, it seemed like Djokovic was adamant about finishing the match as quickly as possible.

Having reached his 14th quarterfinal at the Australian Open, Djokovic now awaits seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or twelfth seed Taylor Fritz. The Serb had beaten Tsitsipas in straight sets in the final last year, while he faced Fritz in 2021, beating him in a tough five-setter.

Djokovic has a winning record against both. He has remained unbeaten against Fritz (8-0) and has an 11-2 record against Tsitsipas. Both of his losses against the Tsitsipas have come on hard courts.
