“Australia will be tough to beat”: Harbhajan on India’s challenge in Women’s T20 World Cup

Harbhajan Singh believes India is the team to beat in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting Australia as the biggest challenge in the group stage.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is set to begin today, where Bangladesh will be taking on Scotland in the first match of the 9th edition of the tournament. The excitement builds as Australia, England, West Indies and India are among the favourites to win the World Cup. While, New Zealand and South Africa could also prove to shock fans.

Indian women’s cricket team will be eyeing making history with their quest for a first-ever title. India’s campaign begins on October 4th against New Zealand, with excitement building around their journey. In an exclusive interview with Star Sports, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh shared his insights on India’s group-stage opponents, cautioning the team about the toughest match.

Harbhajan Singh warns India on opponents

“India needs to be very careful against Australia. Even though the matches are in Dubai, Australia remains a strong team, hard to beat anywhere. Sri Lanka, after their recent series win against India, will also pose a significant challenge,” Harbhajan said. The group includes tough teams like New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, but Harbhajan believes Australia will be India’s biggest test.

Team India are strong contenders for the title

Harbhajan expressed great confidence in India’s chances at the Women’s T20 World Cup, highlighting the team’s balance. “India is the team to beat this tournament. With experienced players like Harmanpreet, Smriti, and the fantastic spinner Deepti Sharma in top form, this team is capable of winning. They’ve been playing excellent cricket, and if they continue that momentum, they can win the tournament,” Harbhajan added.

Harbhajan’s Advice: Focus on the Process, Not the Pressure

Harbhajan advised the Women in Blue to remain grounded and focus on the basics. “Play with heart, and don’t take unnecessary pressure. The key is to give your best, focus on the process, and results will follow. Take it one match at a time and stick to the game plan,” he encouraged, believing that with this mindset, Team India will perform well and potentially create history.
