Alex Carey opens up on the tour –

While speaking ahead of the tour Carey said the following, “We’ve had a number of meetings leading in to the tour with full clarity of what’s going on,” Carey said on Monday.

“Once we hit the ground we will see with our own eyes. Personally, I don’t feel there is a concern to tour.

“We are always well looked after by CA, security, the information we are given, so it’s exciting to hopefully put a bit of a smile on the Sri Lankan faces.

“They are doing it tough from reports but hopefully some cricket will turn that around for them,” the Aussie player concluded.

What exactly is the crisis situation in Sri Lanka? –

  • Sri Lanka has defaulted on a multi-million pound foreign debt payment.
  • The deepening situation has seen the nation’s worst economic crisis since it gained independence in 1948.
  • Sri Lanka has seen weeks of protests because of rising food prices and acute shortages of fuel.
  • Sri Lanka owes $50bn (£40bn) to foreign creditors but says it cannot pay them. It is asking for a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Similar grounds as Pakistan, but different situation –

  • Earlier Australia toured Pakistan, where there were similar crisis issues.
  • Although not economic, but terror and political instability meant that Australia’s tour of Pakistan was met with mix reaction.
  • But both teams and board responded well and completed the series without any trouble.
  • The Aussies will be hoping for similar things during their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
